Santa Maria Maggiore
Built in the 5th century A.D. Pope Sixtus III (432-440). The mosaics above the nave arcade and below the clerestory (windows) date to the 5th century C.E., though heavily restored in the 18th century. The apse mosaics date from the late 13th century, created by Franciscan friar Jacopo Torriti.
Speakers: Richard Bowen (Courtesy Context Travel), Beth Harris and Steven Zucker.
